Walk a little taller today, Maricopa. The rest of the country wants to be us.
We’re hot, baby!
The Tempe-based brokerage firm OpenDoor crunched the numbers and found that Maricopa — namely 85138 — was among the 20 hottest zip codes in the nation.
Those of us with our finger on the pulse already knew this. It wasn’t even a year ago when the U.S. Census showed we’re one of the fastest growing communities in the country.
Back to Opendoor and this new data point.
What makes a zip code hot? For a real estate agency, it’s about how long houses stay on the market. Once listed, Maricopa homes are among the fastest selling in the country. Maricopa is the only Arizona community on the list.
Most of the other hot zip codes are in Texas, Florida and the Carolinas. The top four slots go to Texas zip codes.
Brady Murray, owner of the Maricopa Real Estate Company, wasn’t surprised when we asked him to explain the trend.
[OpenDoor]“We’ve been saying this for a long time,” said Murray.
He chalks up the high demand to the land available, a good water supply for builders and the ability for young families to buy their starter home.
“New homes here start in the low 300s. Compare that to Chandler, Gilbert and San Tan, you’re up in the 400s. You just have lower prices in general.”
