SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Utah Debate Commission has released the schedule for the 2024 general election debates, with the first debate scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 11.
The debates will be held at various educational institutions across Utah, and the UDC said students and members of the public are invited to attend the debates.

“It is exciting to see the Commission partner with students to organize debates at universities statewide,” Mary Weaver Bennett, Chair of UDC Universities Committee and Director of the Center for Politics and Public Service at Southern Utah University, said.
The general election will be held on Nov. 5 — and explanations of who is running for office in Utah and a list of deadlines and eligible voters on Nov. 5 are available on ABC4.com.
“Through direct engagement with students and community leaders, the Commission is fulfilling its crucial mission of educating citizens about the importance of elections and promoting lifelong civic engagement,” Bennett said.
The debates can be viewed both on-air and online, and the schedule of debates is listed below.

Wednesday, Sept. 11 — Governor
The debate between qualified gubernatorial candidates will be held at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
The debate is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and feature incumbent Gov. Spencer Cox, the Republican candidate; Brian Smith King, the Democratic candidate; and J. Robert Latham, the Libertarian candidate.
Other candidates for governor who will appear on the November ballot, according to the general election certification, include Tommy Williams, Independent; and Tom Tomeny, Unaffiliated.
Tuesday, Oct. 1 — Attorney General
The debate between qualified candidates for Attorney General will be held at Southern Utah University in Cedar City on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and is expected to start at 6 p.m.
According to the Sept. 3 general election certification from the Lieutenant Governor’s office, the following candidates will be included on the ballot: Derek Brown, Republican; Rudy J Bautista, Democratic; W. Andrew McCullough, Libertarian; Austin Hepworth, Unaffiliated; and Michelle Quist, United Utah.
The debate will feature the candidates for Attorney General who meet the UDC’s threshold of a 10% level of support (within the margin of error) in a UDC-conducted poll.
Tuesday, Oct. 8 — Congressional District 1
The debate between candidates fighting for Utah’s First Congressional District is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Utah State University in Logan, with an anticipated start time of 6 p.m.
According to the general election certification, the following candidates will be on the ballot in November: Bill Campbell, Democratic; Daniel R. Cottam, Libertarian; and Blake D. Moore, Republican.
The debate will feature the candidates for Congressional District 1 who meet the UDC’s threshold of a 10% level of support (within the margin of error) in a UDC-conducted poll.
Thursday, Oct. 10 — U.S. Senate
The debate for U.S. Senate is scheduled to be held at Weber State University in Ogden on Thursday, Oct. 10, and is expected to start at 6 p.m.
According to the Lt. Gov.’s office, Carlton E. Bowen, Independent; John Curtis, Republican; and Caroline Gleich, Democratic; will appear on the ballot in November.
The debate will feature the candidates for U.S. Senate who meet the UDC’s threshold of a 10% level of support (within the margin of error) in a UDC-conducted poll.
Monday, Oct. 14 — Congressional District 2
The debate for Congressional District 2 is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, and be held at Utah Tech University in St. George.
Per the election certification, the ballot will feature the following candidates: Nathaniel E. Woodward, Democratic; Cassie Easley, Constitution; Celeste Maloy, Republican; and Tyler Murset, Unaffiliated.
The debate will feature the candidates for Congressional District 2 who meet the UDC’s threshold of a 10% level of support (within the margin of error) in a UDC-conducted poll.
Thursday, Oct. 17 — Congressional District 3
The debate for Utah’s Third Congressional District is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Brigham Young University in Provo.
The November ballot will feature the following candidates, according to Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson: Glenn J. Wright, Democratic; and Mike Kennedy, Republican.
The debate will feature the candidates for Congressional District 3 who meet the UDC’s threshold of a 10% level of support (within the margin of error) in a UDC-conducted poll.
Thursday, Oct. 24 — Congressional District 4
The debate for Congressional District 4 is scheduled to be held at the University of Utah on Thursday, Oct. 24, and is expected to begin at 6 p.m.
Per the election certification results, the following candidates will appear on the ballot in November: M. Evan Bullard, Unaffiliated; Vaughn R. Cook, United Utah; Katrina Fallick-Wang, Democratic; and Burgess Owens, Republican.
The debate will feature the candidates for Congressional District 4 who meet the UDC’s threshold of a 10% level of support (within the margin of error) in a UDC-conducted poll.
