More than a million people, more than half of them children, have now been displaced in Haiti as a result of rising gang violence, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
This represents a threefold increase since December 2023, when 315,000 people were homeless.
The UN stresses the need for sustained humanitarian assistance to save lives and address the root causes of the violence. Lack of shelter and basic services such as food and water pose serious challenges.
