U.N. still in need of necessary tools and mechanisms of prevention  and accountability to address major breaches of international law –  Nikol Pashinyan

ArmInfo.Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made a speech during the Summit of the Future Global  Call to be organized within the framework of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on September 12, which was held online. It was initiated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Namibian President  Nangolo Mbumba and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Heads of more than 4 dozen states and governments joined the call.

In his speech, the Prime Minister said,

"It is my pleasure to address this high-level event and share  Armenia's expectations from the Summit of the Future.

As the world is currently facing severe challenges and multiple  crises, the Summit of the Future provides an important opportunity to  boost collective efforts to ensure that the multilateral system is  delivering peace, justice, prosperity and respect for human rights  for all.

The current pace of international developments shows that we are  still heading in opposite directions when the United Nations is still  in need of necessary tools and mechanisms of prevention and  accountability to address major breaches of international law,  notably gross human rights violations and atrocity crimes.

A reinvigorated multilateralism based on the UN Charter and  international law is the answer to the global security and  development challenges, for the benefit of current and future  generations and for ensuring that all voices are heard and no one is  left behind.

From this perspective, the Pact for the Future is a milestone  document for giving a new breath to multilateralism with the United  Nations at its heart.

Armenia was actively engaged in negotiations of the Pact for the  Future to elaborate progressive and meaningful actions to pave the  way for a better, safer, more peaceful and inclusive world.

We look forward to the discussions during the Summit of the Future to  lay the groundwork for reform of global governance, international  peace architecture, ensuring environmental justice, bridging the  technological divide and making the United Nations fit for delivering   on its mandate.

I wish to all of us a successful Summit of the Future and look  forward to participating in that pivotal endeavor ".
