YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The first round of the high school football playoffs have completed in the Valley, and many teams showed us why they deserve to advance.
Let’s check out some of the best plays of the week in our Top Five Plays of Week 11.
Play No. 5: Norton vs. Struthers. Wildcat’s Devin Braham rushes for a 38-yard gain as he stiff-arms one defender, taking six other defenders to bring him down. He rushes for 208 yards and three touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 49-28 win. Struthers advances to play Perry in round two of the playoffs.
Play No. 4: Farrell vs. Seneca. Farrell’s Aaron Pegues escapes multiple defenders and completes a pass to Julius Phillips for the fourth down-conversion touchdown. Farrell wins, 44-7, and plays Sharpsville in the next round.
Play No. 3: Crestline vs. Western Reserve. Western Reserve’s Jack Darney rushed for a 73-yard touchdown. Western Reserve wins, 52-0, and plays Cuyahoga Heights in round two of the playoffs.
Play No. 2: Mayfield vs. Austintown Fitch. Fitch’s Collin Kalaher throws a swing pass to Brady Evans, who throws to Isiah Porch for the 47-yard trick play touchdown. Fitch advances with a 31-7 win. Fitch plays Warren Harding next in the playoffs.
Play No. 1: East Palestine vs. Warren JFK in WKBN’s Game of the Week. East Palestine’s Owen Jurjavcic completes a pass but Warren JFK’s Noah Elser stripes the ball, then records a scoop and scores for the fumble-recovery touchdown. JFK wins, 40-13, and plays Monroeville in round two of the playoffs. Elser completes the play of the game and earns our top play of the week.
