BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — To spread Christmas joy and holiday cheer, that’s The Blessing Corner’s goal around the holidays. Especially to Kern’s most vulnerable populations.
Lines were wrapped around the building outside with people waiting for their Christmas meal and goodies.

The Blessing Corner held it’s Christmas Extravaganza, which provided a free meal, with turkey, ham, potatoes and more to anyone who walked through their doors on Christmas.
“It’s giving out love to those who just don’t have it. And so it makes a difference. Giving love and giving joy to those in need is what we do,” Pastor Tammy Turner with the Blessing Corner said.
Along with hot food, there were gifts for kids and adults. All thanks to community donations. Over 500 meals were served on Christmas day.
Blessing Corner is the only Christmas nonprofit event held on Christmas day in Bakersfield. Pastor Tammy Turner said why it’s so important to have it on the 25th,
“I could be home, then to I could be sick, and you know what I could be in a wheelchair, I could be a lot of different places. But because I spread the joy with my arms with my hands. What If I didn’t have this? So for me it’s giving to those who may be in a wheelchair.”

The gifts was a mixture of toys and gift bags that were filled with some essentials families could use.
“These gift bags here are given with the intent to release some of the financial burden for the seniors here in our community that need some extra help,” Pastor Bonnie Turner of the Blessing Corner said.
After meals and gifts, outside, tables were filled with different food, that people took with them home.
One mother, Jaime Reed, was waiting in line outside. She talked about how important this is for her family. They have been in and out of hotels with no real place to stay,
“It’s really important we’ve been coming here for three years now. And they’ve been a real help with Christmas presents and for meals.”
