Syrian security forces said on Sunday they had destroyed huge quantities of seized drugs. The drugs destroyed included around one hundred million Captagon pills and 10-15 tons of hashish, according to the security forces.
Captagon is an amphetamine-like stimulant. Its production is used to generate revenue in Syria for both the regime of former president Bashar al-Assad and its enemies. According to a 2022 report by the AFP news agency, Captagon was Syria’s most important export product and its production was a billion-dollar business.
According to security forces, the drugs now destroyed had been seized from a Syrian army base.
