Following Mayor Christoper Concert’s retirement, Swoyersville is asking anyone interested in the position to send a letter of interest to the borough.
Residents can email their letters at swoyboro@comcast.net, send them by mail to 675 Main St. or drop them off at the borough building.
Jan. 30 is the last day to apply for the position.
According to the borough, council will interview residents who are interested at an upcoming work session and will then appoint an acting mayor at the regularly scheduled council meeting on Feb. 3.
At a recent council meeting on Monday, it was noted that being a resident of Swoyersville for at least a year is one of the requrements to hold the position of mayor.
Whoever is chosen will serve out the reminder of this year’s term and will have the opporunity to run in the May primary for the November election.
Concert, an Independent, was first appointed mayor in 2015, following the death of longtime borough mayor Vincent Dennis. Concert then ran for a full, four-year term in 2017.
Concert initially announced plans to retire ahead of the 2021 election, but ended up running in that election anyway and was reelected.
Concert served on borough council prior to his appointment as mayor.
