According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Weber County, law enforcement officials were informed of an initial incident around 5:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27. Staff at Ogden Regional Medical Center informed police that Treasure arrived at the hospital intoxicated, “but was since refusing detox treatment and fled,” documents said.
In the hospital parking lot, Treasure struck at least one other car with his truck but did not stop. Hospital staff provided his name to police as the suspected driver.
After leaving the hospital parking lot, Treasure fled north, leading to several calls about reckless driving. A trooper located Treasure’s vehicle and attempted to stop him near 40th and Adams, but Treasure did not stop, and the officer did not continue the pursuit.
More calls came in about hit-and-run incidents involving Treasure’s vehicle, including incidents that injured other drivers and killed a pedestrian. Treasure reportedly T-boned another vehicle in an intersection at 12th and Harrison after running a red light. The driver of the other car was pinned and received major injuries, documents said.
Treasure is accused of running another red light at 20th and Harrison, and running into two other vehicles that were stopped at the light. One of those cars got pushed into the intersection and ran over a pedestrian who was in the crosswalk. The pedestrian later died in the hospital and one driver “suffered severe injuries to the face,” according to the affidavit.
At 42nd and Harrison, Treasure is accused of ramming into more cars that were stopped at a red light and attempting to drive through the intersection. After hitting the cars, he reportedly performed an illegal U-turn and fled. No injuries were reported from this crash.
When Treasure was apprehended and taken to the police station for an interview, officers noticed “the odor of alcoholic beverages emanating” from him, according to documents. Treasure reportedly admitted to drinking earlier that day.
Using warrants, police performed a blood draw on Treasure and obtained his medical records. Treasure was arrested and booked into Weber County Jail on the following charges:
One count of failure to respond to officers’ signal to stop — death/injury, second-degree felony
One count of automobile homicide involving device — criminal negligence, second-degree felony
One count of failure to remain at accident involving death, third-degree felony
One count of failure to remain at accident involving serious injury, third-degree felony
Four counts of reckless driving, class B misdemeanors
Three counts of fail to comply duties at vehicle accident/property damage, class B misdemeanors
One count of driving under the influence — first offense in 10 years, class B misdemeanor
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
