It’s extremely short sighted to imply that all we get out of the Space Program is cool pictures and information. Actually it’s laughable. NASA develops cutting edge technology during their efforts that quickly make the jump to the consumer sector. NASA invented, among other things, the microchip, solar panels, smoke detectors, CAT scanners, and long distance satellite communications. You quite literally wouldn’t have the phone in your pocket if it weren’t for the money that goes to NASA.
And plese… making the time old “oh you could end homelessness with this money!”… Such a dumb dumb dumb thing to say. I was surprised you didn’t go with ending hunger in Africa or something. Those two things are so incredibly unrelated that a comparison between them is pointless. Do you really think that if we stopped funding NASA that all that money would go towards ending homelessness? No, I didn’t think so.
There’s plenty other massive corporations and pork barrel government entities that have more than 18 billion dollars lying around to fix your homelessness issue. And they do MUCH less for us than NASA.
