Preparation begins for Simmons Bank Championship, first PGA Tour event in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Excitement is in the air and on the greens for the Simmons Bank Championship, the first-ever PGA Tour event to be held in Arkansas.

The tournament, which serves as the second round of the PGA Tour Champions’ annual Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, will be held at Pleasant Valley Country Club throughout the week of Oct. 21 to Oct. 27.

The field will consist of the top 54 players in the standings competing for $2.3 million in prize money and a chance to earn their spot among the top 36 in the final event of the season.

The Club’s general manager, Michael Auerbach, said he expects to see more people in attendance for this event than they’ve ever seen in the past.

“It’s a great thing for Little Rock to have this type of professional outing,” Auerbach said.

He said construction for the big event is already underway.

“We’re trying to get through with our clubhouse remodeled and now the tournament people are coming in and they are starting to stage their buildouts,” Auerbach said.

Auerbach added that he expects to see “thousands” of fans in attendance.

The event is also anticipated to have a big economic boost for the city of Little Rock.

Auerbach says construction will continue with more build-outs around the golf course. He added that because of how the course is, people will have a good sight of the players.

“The field is not that huge; so there will be a lot of interaction with the senior golfers and fans,” Auerbach said.
