BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One person was taken into custody after a pursuit ended in a crash in an embankment on Wheeler Ridge Road late Wednesday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, around 11:14 p.m. The California Highway Patrol responded to assist the Bakersfield Police Department in a pursuit of a white GMC Sierra that was traveling north on Wheeler Ridge Road from Laval Road.
The GMC Sierra continued to flee northbound on Wheeler Ridge Road from David Road where the highway patrol took over the pursuit.
The suspect driver continued northbound at a high rate of speed, according to officials. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a dirt embankment and overturned several times.
The suspect driver was taken into custody and transported to Kern Medical for treatment of injuries.
California Highway Patrol officials did not identify the suspect nor state what prompted the pursuit and what charges the suspect was arrested on.
Officials said no one else was in the vehicle and it is not known if drugs or alcohol are factors in the crash.
