The Pike County High School flag football team wrapped up their regular season with two 28-0 shut-out victories over Southwest High School. In just their third season, the team finished second in the Area 5 region and earned a spot in the state playoffs. They will travel to Long County to play in their first ever playoff game Thursday, Dec. 5. If Pike wins game one against Northside Columbus, they will advance to play the winner of the game between Long County and Athens Academy.
“We are on an 8-game winning streak. We shut out Southwest Macon both games 28-0 which gives our defense its ninth shutout of the year. We celebrated our three seniors Elle Smith, Morgan Boynton, Sydney Cochran during the last games of the season,” said coach Blake Parrott. “We head to Long County next week for the first round of the state playoffs. We will need to win two games in order to advance to the Elite 8. If we lose one game, the season is over.”
The team was playing at a high level toward the end of the season as they shut out Southwest Macon 28-0 twice in a row on Nov. 25 in the last of their 8-game win streak. In their last eight games, the team outscored opponents 198 to 6. For the season, the team has scored 251 points and only allowed 104 points to be scored against them.
