ArmInfo. As a result of delimitation, no strategic infrastructure of Armenia can end up on the territory of Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this in an interview with the Public Television of Armenia on January 25.
“The whole point of delimitation is that internationally de jure recognized borders were outlined “on the ground,” Pashinyan assured.
According to him, Armenia has an internationally recognized border that must be outlined on the ground. He believes that this is in Armenia’s national interests. At the same time, the Prime Minister added that if during this process it turns out that, for example, the delimitation commissions come to the conclusion that it will be necessary to exchange territories because of the gas pipeline or in order to ensure the safety of people, then this can be done through a referendum. The OSCE Charter allows this to be done,” Pashinyan assured.
At the same time, he hastened to state that there is no such topic on the agenda of the negotiations today, and this issue has never been discussed. “But if such a situation arises, the government will inform the people and ask them whether they agree to the exchange of territories,” the head of the Armenian government said.
It is noteworthy that when in the spring of 2024 years, the Armenian authorities unilaterally transferred the territories of the Republic in the Tavush direction to Azerbaijan, no referendum was held. And this in conditions when the residents of the village of Kirants, where the so-called delimitation started, had in their hands cadastral documents not only of the modern Third Republic, but also from the times of Soviet Armenia, where it was written in black and white that these were the territories of the Republic of Armenia. Moreover, the authorities of the country intimidated the rebellious people with the police. The protest actions that engulfed the entire Republic were not taken into account. The territories of Armenia, together with the property of the residents of Kirants, were transferred to the enemy side. Moreover, the Armenian Prime Minister proudly declared that people should be happy that the Azerbaijanis will now be 50 meters away from them.
