BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The 6th annual Oktoberfest Brews for Books kicked off Saturday at the Junior League of Bakersfield Community Center.
People came for the beer garden, yard games and Oktoberfest-themed food. Attendees competed in a costume contest during the fundraiser.
Proceeds from the event go towards addressing literacy deficits throughout Kern County.
“The kiddos get a book mailed to them once a month up until they’re 5-years-old. So, as of today we have 146 tickets sold,” said Oktoberfest chairman, Tiffany Frieson. “Right now we’re sponsoring that many kids this year with probably more walk-ins this evening. So, it’s not just beer, we’re giving back to our county.”
One ticket purchase provides books for a child in Kern County through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
