Nominate first responders for Post 197 awards by Sept. 20

Pike County American Legion Post 197 is seeking nominations for the 2024 Pike County Law Enforcement, Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic of the Year Awards and will host a ceremony to honor the local first responders.

To be eligible for the award, they must be currently serving in a law enforcement organization (sheriff’s office, city police department, GA Department of Public Safety, GA Bureau of Investigations or GA Department of Corrections), a firefighting organization (county or city fire department or volunteer fire department) or with Emergency Medical Service (EMS) or a fire department paramedic organization/team.

Candidates must either reside or serve in Pike County. Requests for nominations should include current resident address, location of duty/service, current title, rank and job description, past positions/titles with dates, degrees and training (schools or academies), community volunteer activities and names of family members.

“Most of these items can be pulled from a good resume. The nominating person needs to explain why this person deserves to be recognized,” said Bryan Richardson of Post 197. “Lastly, the nominating person needs to include phone number and/or email address for potential coordination.”

Nomination packets can be emailed to Bryan Richardson, Post Program Director at rich5060@bellsouth.net no later than Sept. 20, 2024. Contacts will be quickly notified if their nominee has been selected. The award ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Pike County American Legion Post 197.

Contact Bryan Richardson at rich5060@bellsouth.net or call or text 678-764-2611.

“Please help our community recognize and show our appreciation to first responders who excel in their duties,” said Richardson.
