YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Mahoning County’s next Clerk of Courts is getting an earlier start to his new position.
Wednesday morning, Commissioners appointed Michael Ciccone to fill out the unexpired term of Dan Dascenzo who is resigning as of Dec. 26 after losing the election to Ciccone last month.
Dascenzo was appointed last year to succeed longtime Clerk Anthony Vivo who had retired. The departure means the terms for all of the county’s deputy clerks will expire on the 26th as well.
“Under Ohio law, that yes, the power of the deputy clerks comes from the elected Clerk of Courts and I will be doing that — be swearing in the deputy clerks and then of course, when the elected term, my elected term begins — I will then have to do that again,” Ciccone said.
Ciccone, who has been an attorney for the last ten years, will begin his full four-year term as Clerk on Jan. 6.
