YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — High school football season may be over, but the accolades keep pouring in for Ursuline standout DC Ferrell after he was named the 2024 Mahoning Valley Coaches Association Player of the Year.
“It feels good knowing that I made a lot of achievements this year, it feels great,” Ferrell said. “I’d like to thank my line a lot. They made me really, like, get into the quarterback position more.”
It is the second year MVCA awarded a local standout with the honor, which includes scholarship money for the recipient. In 2023, Struthers’ Anthony Carter took home the inaugural award.
“First, I want to thank God for blessing me with this ability,” Ferrell said. “And I’d like to thank my dad. Everything he put me through, he pushed me a lot and he just means a lot.”
During his senior campaign, Ferrell led the Irish to 13 wins and a state semifinal appearance while racking up more than 2,000 passing yards with 1,000 rushing yards and 40 total touchdowns.
The Slippery Rock football commit also was named the Division III Offensive Player of the Year and the WKBN Big 22 Player of the Year.
