To the editor,
For anyone who groaned when Trump claimed to “have concepts of a plan” regarding healthcare, you ain’t seen nothing yet!
Speaking at a candidate forum in Maricopa recently, Legislative District 16 Rep. Teresa Martinez (R-Casa Grande) boldly gave the audience her personal cell phone number. She assured everyone that she’d be happy to answer any questions voters might have. What she failed to explain however was that no such answers would be delivered before the election.
Here’s a candidate running for reelection to the Arizona State Legislature refusing to answer legitimate constituent questions before they vote.
One LD16 voter in attendance used Martinez’s cell number to ask about the exploding universal voucher expansion costs. Since it’s now blowing a nearly $1 billion per year hole in the state budget, it seemed like a fair question to ask how Martinez proposed paying for it year after year.
Chair Emeritus Carole Clark and other members of the Casa Grande Democrats. [submitted]Her response was a word salad about how she only answers questions in a group meeting and won’t schedule one until after the election. She also admitted knowing the question came from a known Democrat – making it apparent Martinez only represents Republicans.
Martinez isn’t alone in failing to disclose her platform before the election. Trump, Lake and other MAGA GOP’ers hide behind generalized talking points without providing embarrassing details. They all claim they’ll make your life better but never tell you how.
While I’m quite sure this information won’t sway many votes, I wanted to make all LD16 voters, regardless of party, aware of who you send to the capital on your behalf. Martinez doesn’t care that voters rejected voucher expansion, she doesn’t care enough to answer questions about dealing with the problem and she absolutely proved she doesn’t care about her constituents.
So, if you don’t care either, Teresa Martinez has earned your vote.
Carole Clark
Chair emeritus, Democrats of Casa Grande
