Providence police said they were called to the home on Westminster Street for a welfare check, according to WJAR-TV. When they arrived officers found the man’s body in the basement with obvious signs of trauma and began a homicide investigation.
The victim was identified as 57-year-old Michael Ames. Investigators said Wednesday afternoon that they have taken a 40-year-old suspect into custody, but did not release the person’s name. The suspect and Ames knew each other, according to police.
