LIBERTY, Ohio (WKBN) – Former Warren Harding head football and basketball coach Steve Arnold was introduced as the new Liberty boys basketball coach at Liberty High School early Monday afternoon, Oct. 28.
Arnold was approved unanimously by the Liberty School Board during a Liberty Board meeting.
“I came over to an open gym and I watched the kids play, I just said to myself, I think that hopefully I can do something with these young men,” said Arnold. “Have them grow as young people and obviously be a very competitive basketball team.”
The long-time coach recently stepped down as the Warren Harding head football coach in late 2023.
“My vision for the program is it starts with teaching them how to win and have fun,” said Arnold. “Winning breeds fun. Learn some different things, be open to a new way of doing some different things.”
Arnold spent 35 seasons as a coach at Warren Harding, but previously served as the head boys’ basketball coach for 10 seasons before taking over the football program.
The Leopards start the 2024 season at home against Lisbon Dec. 3.
