LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Despite receiving a large amount of donations, local nonprofit The Van has hit another setback in their effort to buy a building.
In November, donors gave more than $125,000 to the nonprofit, which was under contract for an 8,000 to 10,000-square-foot building that would have been used as an inclement weather emergency shelter and a year-round thrift store.

On Friday, Executive Director Aaron Reddin said when he went to officially purchase the property, which is located on Arch Street, there was a major problem.
“We identified a building and put it under contract with who we thought was the owner of the building and it wasn’t,” Reddin said.
Reddin said this couldn’t come at a worse time with freezing cold temperatures moving in fast.
He said there are almost 700 people in the capital city who need places to go during inclement weather.

Reddin said he is trying everything he can to find a new facility to purchase or lease as soon as possible.
