Little Rock high school student to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Mitchell Cohen has been singing since he could talk, and in February the Little Rock high school student will sing on a much bigger stage.

Cohen will get the once-in-a-lifetime experience to sing with an ensemble choir in New York City, joined by international students.

“Kind of surreal,” Cohen said. “Just because of a performance hall of that caliber, and the fact that like 9,000 kids auditioned for this, and they’ve only accepted 100.”

Cohen said he’s been taking voice lessons since 7th grade to get to this point, but his training doesn’t stop now.

“I’ll be working with Dr. Robert Holden over at UCA,” Cohen explained. “He’s one of the opera coaches there. Just to get more training on that classical technique.”

Hoping this new opportunity will take him to a higher note, Cohen said he’s grateful for the Natural State for helping him pursue his passion.

“There’s so many amazing opportunities, especially in central Arkansas, to do theater and to do what I love,” Cohen said.
