Little Rock Compassion Center seeks donations to support Thanksgiving meals for homeless

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A Little Rock charity supporting the homeless population is asking for public help as it supplies Thanksgiving meals to those in need.

The nonprofit Little Rock Compassion Center will serve meals from its Roosevelt Street location from Thanksgiving through Sunday. Officials estimate 600 to 700 meals served Friday through Sunday, with Thanksgiving meals at 1,000.

Thanksgiving 2024 expected to produce record-setting number of travelers

The center is asking for donations of red and white potatoes, gallon cans of green beans and corn, dinner rolls, cakes and pies. Donations should be dropped off at the center at 2818 West Roosevelt.

The center will serve meals at its dining area at 3618 West Roosevelt beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, beginning with breakfasts for the estimated 200 overnight guests it houses, lunch at noon and dinner served in shifts starting at 4:30 p.m.

Center officials said that donations above immediate need will be used for food baskets for those who can prepare their meals.

“Those of us who are blessed thank God for our blessings at Thanksgiving,” center CEO Pastor Holloway said. “But when someone is homeless, often there is no family and not much to be thankful for.”

Holloway added that the center provides a warm gathering place, a hot meal and sorely lacking fellowship for its clients.
