Local elementary and middle school students recently wrote letters to Georgia legislators to ask that river access be ensured as well as future protection of the river.
The students are all a part of Program Challenge and they have already or will be taking part in an educational float/field trip down the Flint River. They were told about the Nov. 13 Georgia House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters meeting and wanted committee members to know what the river means to them.
“My family and I enjoy a lot of outdoor activities. Most of these activities are around water. We love to hunt, swim, kayak and fish,” said 11-year-old Collins Tice. “Without public access, my family and I would not be able to do these outdoor activities.”

The House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters will meet at 9 a.m. Nov. 13 in Newnan as they hear from the public, local officials, the South Georgia Waterways Perspective, about the Chattahoochee Bend State Park, from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship and to discuss the issues brought up at previous meetings.
