Letter to the Editor: $100 billion for Ukraine but little for California

It is a pattern of poor priorities practiced by the United States government for the past 100 years. The Statue of Liberty should have a pen in one hand and a blank check in the other. A sign stating “we feed the world, and our cupboard is bare for our own.”

A $37,000,000,000,000 deficit, with very little chance of ever paying it down.

Common sense prevention could have made the fire fight in California more achievable. More lives saved, more property salvaged and safer for the tremendous firefighting heroes who risk their lives to protect others.

In 1993, I almost perished in an automobile fire. By the grace of God, I got out of the car 30 seconds before the entire car blew up. I sustained serious injuries, but was treated and lived to see senior age.

There is no greater human being than a firefighter. I pray for these brave people.

But when our government is more concerned about Ukraine than funding the needs of our own citizens, I realize why Donald Trump won a massive landslide in 2024. His statement, “America first.”

Send more money to fight the fire in California, not for the war in which Ukraine is losing to Russia. And they are losing. Hopefully, we can put our tax money where it counts. In the United States of America!

Red state, blue state or purple state. We are all in this together.
