King’s football rebounds, Minor-Shaw has 5 total TDs in win over Misericordia

A week after a high-scoring loss to rival Wilkes, King’s found itself quickly trailing Misericordia on Saturday.

The Monarchs didn’t let things linger.

Russell Minor-Shaw accounted for five total touchdowns and King’s powered its way to a 41-14 victory over the Cougars in the MAC opener for both teams.

Minor-Shaw finished 12-of-18 for 169 yards and four scores through the air while adding 61 yards and another touchdown on the ground. His favorite target was EJ Schreiner, who hauled in three straight scores in the first half to put King’s up 21-7 heading into halftime.

Schreiner’s three touchdown catches tied a single-game school record for the Monarchs as he finished with six grabs for 67 yards.

After the Cougars opened the scoring on a 6-yard run by quarterback Jacob Hunter, Minor-Shaw and Schreiner got to work, connecting for scored of 10, 6 and 14 yards. The third touchdown came with 20 seconds left in the half.

King’s (1-1, 1-0 MAC) pulled away in the third quarter as Jayon Hailey scored on a 9-yard run before Minor-Shaw found Ryan McCombs for a 7-yard score.

The Cougars (1-1, 0-1) found the end zone one more time on the final play of the third when Hunter hit Billy McCleery for a 20-yard scoring strike. Minor-Shaw capped the night with a 17-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

The Monarchs racked up 296 yards on the ground and finished with a 465-202 edge in total yards. Brennan Robinson ran for 118 yards while Hailey added 91.
