Kern County Fair updates community on Avian Influenza concerns

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Fair has announced some slight differences to the event amid recent developments regarding the Avian Influenza in the Central Valley.

After receiving guidance from the California Department of Food and Agriculture, The Kern County Fair announced Sep. 5, the following updates:

The dairy birthing area has been converted to a beef-cow calf birthing area.

The 2024 Dairy Replacement Heifer Show and Sale has been cancelled.

All dairy cattle entered in Division 202 are still eligible to be shown in the fair.

Dairy cows will be stalled together based on their place of origin.

2025 Springer Futurity Heifers are still eligible, even if exhibitors chose not to attend the 2024 show.

The 2024 Kern County Fair runs from Sep. 18 through Sep. 29.
