Information warfare often waged against Armenia – ambassador

ArmInfo. Actions that are essentially an information war are often carried out against the  Republic of Armenia. This was stated by the Ambassador of Armenia to Russia Gurgen Arsenyan during his speech at the 12th meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CIS countries.

As reported by the press service of the Armenian Embassy in Russia,  he stated this while touching upon the issue of information security.

"Today, information and hybrid influence is acquiring a special  scope, and in this context, I must regretfully state that actions  that are essentially an information war are often carried out against  the Republic of Armenia. This includes the dissemination of fake news  by controlled or biased structures and media of foreign states, and  their systematic dissemination of deliberately false information  about Armenia, an attempt to impose a negative image of the country,  to create an atmosphere of mistrust and uncertainty," the Ambassador  of Armenia noted.

Arsenyan also touched upon the process of settling  Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. "The Government of the Republic of  Armenia is firmly committed to the speedy establishment of peace in  the South Caucasus and the region's transition to a stable and  predictable development trajectory, taking into account the interests  of all countries in the region. We proceed from the firm conviction  that peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not only possible, but  also achievable," the Armenian diplomat said.

According to the report, during the meeting, the participants  discussed joint measures by the CIS member states to preserve the  historical memory of the Great Patriotic War and traditional  spiritual and moral values in the CIS. Information security issues  were also discussed.

Arsenyan stressed that next year the countries will celebrate the  80th anniversary of the victory in the most difficult war in human  history, which was achieved largely due to the unity, indomitable  endurance and heroic self-sacrifice of the peoples of the CIS member  states. "We are proud that, having gone through all the trials, the  peoples of our states made an invaluable contribution to achieving  the final victory over fascism. Our grandfathers and grandmothers, at  the cost of their lives and the happiness of their generation, broke  the back of fascism, and we are infinitely grateful to them for what  they gave to their Motherland," he summed up.
