Hear Joe Parks tell history of Hilltop

The Pike County Historical Society will hear from Joe Parks about the history of the Hilltop Community in Concord at the 7 p.m. meeting Thursday, Jan. 9 at the Pike County Historical Society’s Genealogical Library (adjacent to Zebulon City Hall).

Hilltop is an area of Concord that has most of its original housing in place, which is primary residential with very little commercial property. This community has an active committee that invites its citizens to help clean up and restore areas.

The Hilltop committee also schedules and promotes events annually for citizens to fellowship with one another.

In the Historical Society’s recent newsletter, a photo of Corine Reeves Williams and her son Henry Williams were pictured in Hilltop, next to a street sign commemorating Emmitt A. Williams. Corine Reeves and Emmitt Williams were married April 13, 1924 in Pike County.

The Pike County Historical Society hosts programs every other month which highlight interesting historical aspects of the county and the area. The group also has a genealogical and history library in the same building as the Georgia Military College Zebulon campus. Pike County Historical Society programs feature special speakers who are spotlighted in the bi-monthly newsletter which is emailed to members every other month. They often bring items of historical importance to be displayed as well.
