In just the third season of the sport, Pike County High School’s flag football team made the playoffs for the first time in school history.
The team will travel to Long County to play their first playoff game Dec. 5 and if they win game one, they would play again that day to see who makes it to the Elite 8.
The flag football team found their footing late in the season as they won their final five games of the schedule and outscored their opponents 113 to 6 in the last five games. They defeated Jackson 27-0 on Nov. 11, beat Howard 21-0 on Nov. 13, won over Baldwin 18-0 and then dominated Rutland 35-0 with both games on Nov. 18.
Pike’s flag football team beat Mary Persons 12-6 in an overtime thriller on Nov. 20.
The team is second in Area 5 with a 6-1 region record and they have a 9-5 overall record. For the season, the team has scored 195 points and allowed 104 points.
