Fire alarm disrupts courthouse operations

WILKES-BARRE — Operations at the Luzerne County Courthouse were temporarily suspended when an activated fire alarm evacuated the building Wednesday morning.

Wilkes-Barre City Fire Chief Jay Delaney said the fire department responded to the courthouse on North River Street for an activated fire alarm at 10:19 a.m.

Visitors conducting business along with county and court employees evacuated the courthouse.

Several firefighters entered the courthouse as the sheriff’s department reset the fire alarm system.

Delaney said there was no emergency at the courthouse.

Employees and visitors returned to the courthouse about 25 minutes after the fire alarm activated.
