KALIHI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to a suspected firework incident in the Kalihi area, the first firework-related call of New Year’s Eve.

Officials said the call came in just at 9:51 p.m. after a suspected firework “possibly exploded in a person’s hand.”
Paramedics treated a 14-year-old male who suffered burns to his hand from an apparent firework blast.
He was treated with advanced medical care and transported to a trauma center in serious condition.
