EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) — Pottery is deeply rooted in the history of East Liverpool, and one woman is now memorialized in the Museum of Ceramics.
Betsy Miller passed in 2022, but before that, she was heavily and passionately involved in the community.
On Saturday, she was memorialized by her family and her group of friends, the Lady Slippers. The group volunteers countless hours and money to the Museum of Ceramics.
Betsy’s apron, which is vital to potters while they shape clay, has been framed and will displayed in the museum.
Her sons, Mike and Mark, came back home to see her apron be memorialized.
“There’s the driving force behind a lot of the fundraising, and it sounded like she had a big influence on a lot of people in a lot of the things that you see at the museum,” Mike said.
“A lot of people had ideas, but she was actually the person that would go out and be bold and bring those things to fruition and then work with everybody to make those things happen,” Mark said.
The Lady Slippers’ name was also created by Betsy. It refers to the liquid mixtures used in joining, decorating and glazing pottery.
