(WPDE) — Drought conditions have returned to South Carolina after a record-dry October.
The state was declared drought-free after rain from Tropical Storm Helene in September, according to the State Drought Response Committee.
Following Helene, multiple National Weather Service stations reported seeing less than .1 inches of rain the entire month of October.
The long dry period led to multiple wildfires that burned 518 acres of land across the state.
The committee hopes rain in the near future will bring much-needed relief without bringing any damaging effects.
