Distracted driving is the suspected cause of a single-vehicle crash that led a Mazda sedan into a ditch near Stagestop Marketplace on Monday, according to new info from the Maricopa Police Department.

[Brian Petersheim Jr.]A male driver and passenger were travelling westbound on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway near Plainview Street at 9:27 p.m. when the crash occurred, according to MPD Capt. Stephen Judd.
“The driver struck a curb and ran over a street sign and ended [up] coming to rest in an area of depression on the side of the road,” Judd told InMaricopa yesterday afternoon. “Responding officers did not detect any signs of impairment.”
Police said they believe distracted driving was the most likely cause of the collision. There were no injuries.
