A contract agreement between Crestwood School District and its support staff was reached this weekend, averting a strike previously scheduled to begin Monday, said support staff union President John Chupka.
The agreement is tentative, with members expected to vote on the contract later this week.
Chupka expects that it will be approved by union members and details on the contract will be released once it’s passed.
“It’s a deal we’re happy with and it’s a deal the school should be happy with,” said Chupka.
The union president gave all of his thanks to the union negotiators who bargained with the school district all weekend, before reaching an agreement Sunday.
Chupka previously said that the strike was initially authorized due to a combination of benefit and compensation issues stemming from contract negotiations that began in January.
The union’s previous contract with the district expired on June 30.
According to previous Times Leader reporting, the support staff union at Crestwood is a branch of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA).
There are 111 employees apart of the union, including cafeteria workers, custodians, maintenance workers, the information technology (IT) department and paraprofessionals.
