Conway Cycling Project repairs hundreds of bikes and gives them to those in need

CONWAY, Ark. – A nonprofit in Conway is working to give old bikes a new home to those who need them.

Ron King with the Conway Cycling Project explained that the group of volunteers repairs and rehomes older bikes.

“We ask people for their old bikes and then we repair them, we’re all volunteers,” King said. “And then we give them away.”

Five of those bikes are now going to international students at Central Baptist College.

Manuela Cruz, a senior at Central Baptist College, is from Columbia and said being an international student has its challenges.

“It’s not always easy to find anyone who wants to impact our lives that way,” Cruz said.

Cruz said having this new mode of transportation gives herself and others a new sense of freedom.

And for that reason, King said their mission will keep pedaling forward.

“It’s just a great feeling, because I know what the future looks like when you have a bike,” King said.
