Construction underway for renovations on the North Little Rock Animal Shelter

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- A $630,000 project funded by the American Rescue Plan Act is helping renovate and add on to the North Little Rock Animal Shelter.

The North Little Rock Animal Shelter director Adam Tindall said these animals deserve the best care.

“It will be a huge difference,” Tindall said. “You always want to upgrade your facilities; changes need to be made over time.”

Tindall said they act as more than a shelter; they are a temporary home. North Little Rock is trying to make it the best place for the animals until they find their fur-ever home.

“We are trying to make it a little bit more of a friendly aspect when you’re walking in to look it doesn’t look like they are just sitting in a cell,” Tindall said.

From new floors and drains to help with safety and flooding to a whole new exterior, entrances and offices.

“Health is the key here; you know there are so many different diseases, so many different things that can happen, especially with animals,” Tindall said. “You know they can’t tell you when they feel bad.”

The construction is set to be completed before the beginning of 2025.
