City of Youngstown approves renovations as new businesses move into former Rite Aids

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – On Tuesday, Youngstown’s Design Review Committee approved exterior renovations for some vacant buildings, as well as new signs for a restaurant downtown.

The committee approved renovations for two local Rite Aids that were recently shut down — one at 2800 Mahoning Avenue and another at 2701 Market Street.

Both buildings will soon be getting new tenants.

Kedplasma USA, a plasma donation and collection center, will be moving into the building on Mahoning. The company has over 70 locations across the country but this will be the first in Youngstown. Construction inside will start next April and take about 13 months.

Buckeye PACE, a senior center and clinic, will be moving into the building on Market. It plans to open in a year.

Both companies also plan to do complete renovations inside the former Rite Aids.

The committee also approved new signs for a new downtown restaurant, The Varsity Club. It will soon open at the corner of Hazel and Commerce streets on the first floor of the Gallagher Building. The Varsity Club will have a full-service bar and outdoor patio. The goal is to open for customers by Thanksgiving weekend.
