WAIANAE, HAWAII (KHON2) — A Waianae family was shaken up after bullets were fired into their home on Christmas Day. No injuries were reported but they are hoping an arrest will be made.

“Fireworks were being popped as usual so I think we kind of just mixed up the gunshots with the firework sounds and didn’t really think anything of it,” stated the homeowner’s daughter.
Family members said they were outside when stray bullets hit their home at midnight.
“I kind of felt shocked and scared,” stated the homeowner’s niece. “Like, it it’s going to happen again.”
The homeowner’s son was about to go to bed when he noticed a rip in his mattress. The bullet had ripped through a few layers of the bed including his bed sheets.

He later found the bullet hole near an adjacent wall where he suspects the bullet first entered through.
“I was scared,” stated the homeowner’s son. “I didn’t want to sleep in my room for a little bit.”
The family said they live in a quiet neighborhood where shootings like this rarely happen.
“We don’t really have to worry about those kind of things around here,” stated the homeowner’s daughter. “We’re pretty close to all our neighbors around us.”
After realizing their home had been shot at, the family found more damage in their kitchen.
They first noticed wood shavings on their counter. As they kept looking, the family found a hole in their shelf and on the side of their microwave. Eventually, they discovered another hole in the wall where the bullet had come through.
“We actually would like to find out what happened and who did this to us, because it’s in our home. It can happen again,” said the homeowner’s daughter. “We really just want to get the word out and see if anybody saw or heard anything or if this had happened to anybody else as well.”

No arrests have been made and an investigation is pending.
