Building fire causes road closure in McCully area, HFD on the scene

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu Fire Department was called to a building fire at a two story apartment building on Young Street in the McCully area, which was reported at 7:42 p.m.

The fire occurred on the first and second floor. There has not yet been any reports of injuries. Honolulu EMS is on the scene.

“We’re eating dinner at night and all of a sudden we heard this popping sound and then all of a sudden a fire broke out,” said Donovan Lerer, a resident in the area.

Young Street has been closed in both directions as a result of the incident.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. An investigator was sent to the scene.

As of 9:07 p.m. the fire is under control, according to HFD.
