BPD closes investigation into 2022 Snowdon Ave double homicide

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Police have completed their investigation into the deaths of two men who shot each other at a home in southwest Bakersfield on Christmas Eve 2022.

Bakersfield police Sgt. Eric Celedon confirmed Tuesday that the case — which garnered intense scrutiny and concerned two men who were romantically involved with the same woman — was closed after a ballistics report was received sometime after August of this year.

Police have previously said an estranged boyfriend forced his way into a home on Snowdon Avenue at about 4 a.m. Another man was already in the house.

Both men — Jacob Malena and Tanner Marlow, both 30 — were armed and killed each other during a gunfight, police said. They never identified who broke into the home and who was already there.

Days after the shooting, Malena’s father told 17 News his son was married but separated, and was in a “strained” relationship with a woman who’d been living with him at the Snowdon Avenue home. He said Malena left behind four children.

Marlow, a mixed martial arts fighter who fought under the name “American Psycho,” was described by his cousin on GoFundMe page as “one of the sweetest most caring men who loved his family to no end.”
