Mrs. Betty Louise Cheek Garrett, age 83, of Griffin, passed away October 29, 2024, at Pike Manor in Zebulon. She was born in Douglasville, daughter of the late Martry Cheek and Cleo Tate Cheek. Mrs. Garrett called herself a “domestic engineer” and took great care of her family and her home. She was an active member of Williamson Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was part of the VIP senior group and ladies’ groups. She enjoyed traveling, camping, bowling and baking. For many years, she and her husband were part of a square-dancing club and took many trips with their friends in their dune buggies. When her children were young, Mrs. Garrett was very involved in their sports, 4-H, and other activities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jimmie Jefferson (JJ) Garrett, siblings, Carolyn, Nell, Norma, Frances, Harold, Nancy, Ray and Bobbie.
She is survived by her children: Saundra Denise Taylor (James) of Griffin, and Robert Neil (Robbie) Garrett (Cheryl) of Fort Walton Beach, FL; grandchildren: Brandon Hewitt, Robert Neil Garrett II (Ashley), and Kevin Taylor (Appie); great-grandchildren: Robert Neil Garrett III, Justin Taylor and Paige Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 2 p.m. in Williamson Methodist Church, 20 2nd District Road, Williamson. Pastor Chuck Stutsman and Rev. Russ Waldmann will officiate. Burial will follow in Westwood Gardens in Griffin.
Friends may visit the family on Friday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the church.
Flowers will be accepted, however those wishing to make donations may do so to Williamson Methodist Church, P.O. Box 83, Williamson, Georgia 30292.
