Bears QB Caleb Williams had surgery to remove cyst on throwing arm

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams had elective surgery to remove a cyst from his throwing arm, two league sources confirmed Saturday. Neither Williams nor the Bears have any concerns about the issue going forward.

The revelation came after Williams, a former Heisman Trophy winner at USC, was shown on camera by Fox Sports while attending a Wisconsin-USC men’s basketball game in Los Angeles. Williams, who also sported a new short haircut, had a white cast on his right hand that ran from his knuckles to below his wrist.

Williams finished the season with 3,541 passing yards, the most for a Bears rookie, to go with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions in a team-record 17 starts.

Williams planned to spend his offseason in the Los Angeles area, where he has business interests, and Jacksonville, Florida, where he trains with his personal quarterback coach. He’ll return for offseason workouts. The Bears will get extra ones by virtue of hiring a new head coach.
