Arson suspect arrested after lorry erupts into fireball near The Orchards shopping centre and Aldi in Dartford

A man has been arrested following a suspected arson attack which saw a lorry erupt into a fireball.

Fire crews and police officers were called to the scene in Suffolk Road, Dartford, at around 8.30pm on Saturday (January 18).

A dramatic video captured the moment the vehicle, which was parked in a loading bay behind The Orchards Shopping Centre and neighbouring Aldi supermarket, was engulfed in flames.

The short clip shows a fire engine pulling up and crews jumping out to tackle the blaze with a hose.

Witness Naweed Hotak can be heard declaring the fire was “getting worse” as the vehicle continued to burn until the video’s conclusion.

There were no reported injuries, however, the cause is being treated as suspicious.

Police have since confirmed that it is investigating a suspected arson attack on the lorry and a 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident on Saturday.
