ArmInfo. Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan discussed programs aimed at helping the people of Artsakh forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan's aggression at a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk in Switzerland.
As reported by the press service of the President of Armenia, in this regard, the parties noted the need to unite the efforts of authoritative international organizations and political authorities of countries to protect human rights and resolve humanitarian issues.
Referring to armed conflicts in various regions of the world, Khachaturyan and Turk emphasized the importance of a multilateral approach to the protection of human rights.
Then the head of Armenia spoke about the ambitious program of democratic reforms implemented by the Armenian government since 2018.
The interlocutors noted the importance of ensuring quality education in the context of protecting human rights and promoting democratic values.
On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan, under the pretext of an "anti-terrorist operation", committed another act of aggression against Artsakh. This was preceded by a nearly 10-month blockade of the unrecognized republic. Since the enemy aggression that began in
the fall of 2020, which in September 2023 ended with the complete ethnic cleansing of Artsakh, over 150 thousand Artsakh residents have lost their homeland and become refugees.
