Maumelle, Ark. – Maumelle police say one person is dead after a 45-minute standoff led to an officer-involved shooting.
According to investigators, officers were called to Crystal Hill Road around 2 p.m. where there was reports of an emotionally disturbed person armed with a knife.
After officers arrived, investigators said they found a person holding a knife and acting erratically.
Officers said they spoke with the person for 45 minutes to find a peaceful resolution before the individual advanced on officers and a Taser was used to stop the person.
Investigators said the Taser was found to be ineffective and when the person continued to walk toward officers in a threatening manner, they fired on the individual who was pronounced dead later at a nearby hospital.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Maumelle authorities requested the Arkansas State Police to conduct an investigation into the shooting.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard practice, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The name of the person who was shot has not yet been released.
