When they tried to leave, it’s alleged the suspect was confronted by an employee who was then assaulted. Police say the member of staff was “threatened with a handgun” before the suspect left the store.

A spokesman said: “An investigation into the incident included forensic examinations and the review of CCTV footage.

“On Thursday, January 16, an officer spotted a suspect in the town and patrols attended an address where a man was arrested. The constables also seized a BB gun.”

Nicholas Tapp, of Lowfied Street, Dartford, was later charged with robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent.

The 44-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 17.
