H.S. Basketball: Holy Redeemer pulls away late in win against Nanticoke Area

Holy Redeemer forced nine turnovers in the first quarter to take a double-digit lead, but it wasn’t until midway through the fourth that the Royals pulled away for a 74-57 win against Nanticoke Area on Wednesday night in Wyoming Valley Conference girls basketball.

Redeemer used an inside basket from Brooke Kroptavich, a layup by McKenzie Chimock and a 3-pointer by Megan Albrecht to take a 66-49 lead with three minutes left. A pair of inside baskets by Gillian Parsons a short time later made it 70-51.

The Royals led 24-13 after one quarter, using an 11-0 burst in the final two minutes. Nanticoke moved within 24-19 early in the second on consecutive 3-pointers by Marli Donahue and Natalee Atkins. Redeemer, though, was able to build its advantage to 34-21 with another run ending with a 3-pointer by Kroptavich.

Kroptavich led Redeemer with 17 points followed by Megan Albrecht with 16. Chimock added 13 and Parsons had 11.

Atkins had 16 and Kate Reed scored 15, all on 3-pointers, for Nanticoke Area. Navaeh Baran added 12.

Lake-Lehman 53, MMI Prep 8

Ella Wilson scored 11 points and Kinley Purdy added eight as Division 2 leader Lake-Lehman defeated MMI Prep.

Shreeya Parikh had four points for MMI Prep.

Crestwood 58, Berwick 30

Crestwood pulled away in the middle quarters, outscoring Berwick 35-11 on the way to a victory.

Charlie Hiller led Crestwood with 24 points followed by Jackie Gallagher with 14. Kendall Petrosky had 11.

Carly Post scored 10 for Berwick.

Wyoming Seminary 33, Wyoming Area 19

Ella Stambaugh netted 16 points and Stella Ruiz added eight as Wyoming Seminary defeated Wyoming Area.

Jailynn Park had seven for Wyoming Area. Aminah Dixon and Kendall Day each had five rebounds.

Hazleton Area 70, Dallas 28

Unbeaten Hazleton Area continued to roll through its schedule as Kaitlyn Bindas scored 15 points to lead the Cougars.

Sophia Shults and Sophia Benyo had 11 each.

Brianna Casey paced Dallas with 10.

Wyoming Valley West 40, Wilkes-Barre Area 38

Thalia Irizarry scored 15 points to help Wyoming Valley West hang on against Wilkes-Barre Area.

Alyvia McLaughlin added nine points on three 3-pointers for the Spartans.

Jaida Underwood did the bulk of the scoring for the Wolfpack with a game-high 23 points.

Northwest 73, Montgomery 17

Ashlyn Hermanofski had 23 points to lead a trio of Rangers in double-figures.

Ava Ruckle added 16 points and Jordin Bowman finished with 12 for Northwest.
